G’day Travelers! Having recently go back from another trip to Melbourne. I thought it was time for me to put together a list of my top 5 things to do in Melbourne. Now I’m not a shopper, I’m not a cafe connoisseur and fine dining is well and truly wasted on me, which are all big things to do in Melbourne. So this list is more for the going out and doing stuff type person like myself.
5. Catch a Tram
Catching a Tram is the quint essential Melbourne tourist experience. For a long time it was a mode of transport unique to the this Australian city, until the other cities started bringing Tram and Light-rail services back. The mix of older and newer trams adds to the charm of Melbourne. For the touristy experience catch the City Circle tram on one of Melbourne’s older/historic trams. However with trams now being free with in the CBD you can catch as many as you like.
4. Wander the Laneways
I’m not an art buff, but amongst the graffiti style tags on the walls lining the laneways are some very impressive examples of street art. The nature of street art is that it’s always changing and you might just find a genuine artist working on their latest artwork during your travels. There’s also some small food vendors in amongst the laneways great places for grabbing a snack on the go.
3. Melbourne Sea Life Aquarium
Melbourne’s Sea Life Aquarium is a great thing to do regardless of the weather. It’s located right on the Yarra River making it really easy to find and get to. The oceanarium is worth the price of admission alone with massive sharks and stingray’s interacting with a huge collection of fish all around you.
2. Crown Casino
There is more to the Crown Casino than just gambling, although that is the key part of its attraction. It’s well worth wandering around the casino and exploring its many aspects. I’m not a big gambler, but I’ll willingly lose $20 on a roulette table once a year. If gambling isn’t your Crown has an interesting collection of bars, restaurants, nightclubs, even a cinema and bowling alley to keep you entertained.
1. Attend A Sporting Event
Melbourne does sporting events well, I mean really, really, well. I doesn’t matter if it’s the Cricket at the MCG, Tennis at Rod Laver Arena, Formula 1 at Albert Park or AFL at Etihad Stadium. The entire city gets behind sporting events and the venues always have an awesome atmosphere. Certainly part of the Melbourne experience that you should include as part of your trip.
Have you been to the Melbourne before? Feel something else should have been on the list? Let me know comment below so I can check them out for next time.
